Bab Bhar

Bab Bhar, or Gate of the sea in English, is one of the seven gates of the Medina.
The old town was protected by the great ramparts and all the activities happened inside the wall of the Medina.

This monumental gate, constituted by a low arch surmounted by a serrated parapet owes its name to its orientation to the east facing the Mediterranean and the Lake of Tunis.
It opens on one of the most important avenues of downtown Tunis, Avenue Habib Bourguiba.

Situated at “Place de la Victoire”, this historical gate separates between the Medina and the modern town of Tunis.
